My Entrepreneurship Story
This entrepreneur
story is about my own beloved grandmother. She was born and raised in Hongkong.
When she was 10 years old, her mother died, and this was a significant change
in her life. Since her father low salaries cannot afford to raise all four children,
she had to quit school and do the house works including taking care of her younger
siblings. At the age of 18, she moved to Thailand alone and started working at
a garment factory. She had to work over hours every day in order to have a good
new life. Coming to Thailand alone with no friends or families, did not understand
Thai, and worked as a white-collar labor, this was definitely a hard and tough time
in her life.
After working for 5 years, my grandmother
met my grandfather who also worked in the same factory and they decided to open
a small garment factory. With the need to buy a lot of fabrics to produce
clothes, they decided. to import large orders of fabrics then use them to produce
clothes and sell to other factories as well (acting like a middleman). Doing this
way they can cut costs and compete with other garment factories. It turns out
that the income from selling fabrics is more profitable than garment services, therefore,
they decided to produce their own fabrics. To make fabrics, it requires threads and yarns
which are made from cotton and synthetic silk. About ten years later, Mandarin
spinning Co Ltd was established as a one complete stop service that produce yarn
and threads to fabrics; we export our products to European countries and as
well as neigh-boring countries such as Cambodia and Laos. With all their hard
world throughout 30 years, mandarin spinning has expanding to three factories
with more than thousand workers. Our company statement is to make high quality product, prompt delivery, and excellent customers service.
Although mandarin spinning is not the largest
player in the textile industry of Thailand, I’m really proud of my grandmother
who has started everything from zero. Although she did not finish high school,
she told me that the most important lesson is life experience that you learn
from failures. Also, 50 years ago, there were not many competitors in the
textile industry; therefore, it’s an advantage to start early. She has always
been a role of model in not giving up to any difficulties in life.
Here are some production at our factory.
Reason I take
this course: I look up on my grandparents on how incredible they are to have
their own business. I always want to have my own nails/eyelashes boutique because
they are things that I’m obsessed. Also, I also have a passion in exercising: spinning,
yoga, and boxing. Therefore, I think I could do some business about things that
I love, and I hope I’ve learned some entrepreneur trips that I could apply them
in the future.
Hi Bay! Wow, what a great story! Your grandmother sounds like such a hardworking and strong woman. It's so awesome that you have her in your life to show you that anything is possible if you just put in the effort. My grandmother is also an inspiration of mine - even through the tough circumstances of her life, she still found a way to provide for her family and is now living a great life. Awesome story and thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHi Piyaporn! The story that you offered was truly amazing and goes to show that entrepreneurship is all over the place. It was great to read about your grandmother and it sounds like she is a fantastic, hardworking woman. I think it is so cool that you want to take this class because you look up to your grandparents and want to open your own store in the future. Doing something that you love always helps with having the drive to do something challenging such as that. I wish you luck!
